Crewe Climbing and Potholing Club was founded in 1957 and is one of the largest and most well respected caving clubs active in the Peak District of North Staffordshire and Derbyshire. Despite our name, we now draw our membership from the whole of the Cheshire and Staffordshire region, although we are mainly based around the Stoke-on-Trent, Crewe and Macclesfield areas, and we are essentially cavers.
We are a friendly and active club, interested in all aspects of modern day cave and mine exploration, and we are pleased to welcome anyone interested in experiencing the fascinating world below ground. Newcomers to the sport are especially welcome.
We cave in all the major caving areas of the UK, including:
Overseas our members have caved in many European countries, as well as further afield in New Zealand, Australia and China.
Experienced club members, including those with nationally recognised instructing qualifications, can provide training in all modern caving techniques, including the use of flexible (wire) ladders and lifelines (more appropriate to complete novices), and Single Rope Technique (S.R.T.). The club maintains stores containing large quantities of specialised caving equipment, which is available to all members.
Recent Lottery funding has made it possible for us to arrange supervised caving trips for individuals, or for small groups, with all the necessary equipment provided. Persons between sixteen and eighteen years of age must provide written consent from their parents or legal guardians before they can be included in underground trips.
Crewe Climbing and Pot-holing Club is a member club of the British Caving Association, the Derbyshire Caving Association and the Council of Northern Caving Clubs. We are affiliated to the Derbyshire Cave Rescue Organisation, and provide a strong and highly experienced rescue team.
We hold Public Liability Insurance through the Derbyshire Caving Association, which covers all our members.
