Descender

Part of the SRT, or Single Rope Technique kit, which is used to overcome vertical drops, using a single rope to descend and ascend. Used to abseil down a single rope. This one is a Kong Bannana bobbin style descender, but there are a variety of different types of descender we use, to suit personal taste. Some will automatically lock and stop the descent, if a handle is released, as a safety measure. Others rely on the caver keeping control at all times. Some are used in conjunction with a braking karabiner to introduce extra friction, for extra control.
